Wren

Condition: Severe Pulmonary StenosisTetralogy of Fallot

Hometown:

Wren’s parents were surprised with her diagnosis at birth. About an hour after she was born, neonatologists noticed her oxygen levels were lower than normal. It led to a whirlwind of tests, and Wren was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot with severe pulmonary stenosis, a complex heart condition.

Now 1-year-old Wren has had two heart surgeries: the first at just 7 days old to establish blood flow to her lungs, and the second at 5 months old for a complete repair of her heart. Thanks to Bahaaldin Alsoufi, M.D., pediatric cardiologist, and the team at Norton Children’s Heart Institute, Wren is thriving today.

“We have been blessed with such an amazing experience from the start until currently with the care that has been provided for our daughter,” Wren’s mom said.

Wren’s parents want to give a shout-out to Dr. Alsoufi and the other incredible providers who made their journey easier: Edward S. Kim, M.D., pediatric cardiologist; Michael D. Ruppe, M.D., pediatric critical care; Mark A. Brockman Jr., M.D., pediatrician; Ashley Eastman, R.N.; Ashley J. Rhinehart, APRN; and Terry — you are all stars! Wren’s parents said the entire pediatric intensive care unit staff provided them with invaluable knowledge and support.

Wren is a bundle of joy who loves books, music and making everyone laugh, her parents said.

Her plan of care includes regular cardiology follow-up visits and surgeries as she grows. Wren’s journey is a testament to the power of love and exceptional medical care.
