Stella’s journey began with congenital heart disease. Even before her birth on Nov. 15, 2017, her family knew she was destined for an extraordinary path. Her heart conditions included holes and weakened muscle, which meant surgery was imminent.
Stella received a heart transplant on July 23, 2018, when she was just eight months old. Her journey to that moment was not easy. She faced cardiac and respiratory arrest, endured CPR, a stroke and more. Stella’s strength shone through every obstacle she encountered.
Throughout her first year of life, Stella faced open heart surgery, days on total heart and lung life support (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO), kidney support, and multiple procedures.
Now 5 years old, Stella’s life is a testament to her strength and the care provided by Norton Children’s Heart Institute. While she still attends numerous doctor appointments and follow-ups, Stella leads a normal life.
From family travels to the beach, big cities and Disney World, to the thrill of snowboarding, Stella embraces life. Her journey to preschool last fall was a milestone filled with happiness, as she delved into school, made friends and enjoyed playground adventures.
