Hometown:

Maisie’s heart journey began when her mother was 24 weeks pregnant. At a routine ultrasound, Maisie’s mom was referred to Norton Children’s Hospital for an official diagnosis.

Maisie was then diagnosed with a narrowing aortic arch, flipped ventricles, a large ventricular septal defect (hole in the heart) and transposition of the great arteries. At 1 week old, she underwent her first double switch surgery, followed by another surgery at 10 months.

During her journey, Maisie spent two months after her first surgery and one week after her second surgery at Norton Children’s Hospital.

Maisie is a year old now. Her plan of care involves an aggressive G-tube study and calorie counting, with the ultimate goal of bidding farewell to the G-tube (feeding tube).

Beyond her medical journey, Maisie loves swimming and animals — especially tigers. Her infectious smile and observant nature brighten the world around her.

Maisie’s family wants to thank their amazing care team: Bahaaldin Alsoufi, M.D.; Mark J. McDonald, M.D.; Dr. Ruppe NP – our nurse practitioners, and all the compassionate nurses on the cardiac floor.
